Abyssal monsters possess indescribably horrific forms. These demonic creatures were encountered during the Oniyx expedition, a terrifying venture into the depths of the temple of Zaar’Phahl in Shal’Zaar. While seeking a way out of the Abyss, the group encountered new abyssal scourges. Their forms were difficult to describe, but after their initial fright, the explorers realized that these monstrosities were pointing them toward the exit. Trusting them was their last hope. These unlikely guides mowed down monsters like wheat, wielding weapons fed by the elemental chaos of the place. The specters thus kept the Abyss from spilling onto the Surface, giving the survivors time to raise fortifications around the breach. They were named “Shado,” from shadow without its W: as the initial of win, that letter had no place in an endless battle where victory could never be achieved. The temple of Zaar’Phahl is adorned with countless decorations in their honor.
